About Me

Mark Burdette is a mediator, arbitrator, and dispute resolution consultant. A graduate of Colgate University, Mr. Burdette received his BA in Physics. He retired in 2012 from his position as Vice President, Employee Relations for American Airlines and is currently self employed as an Arbitrator and Mediator.

Mr. Burdette enjoyed a 42 year career in positions of increasing responsibility with Trans World Airlines, then with American Airlines. While much of his experience has been in the area of labor and employee relations, he also has served as a leader of operating departments.

He has negotiated over 30 labor agreements with a wide variety of union representatives, including the Allied Pilots Association, the Airline Pilots Association, the Regional Airline Pilots Association, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the Association of Flight Attendants, the Transport Workers Union, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Union leaders have found him to be an honest and fair problem solver who treats them with courtesy and respect. He has been recognized by both management and labor for his patience and calm demeanor.

Mr. Burdette has been trained in Mediation and is certificated as a Mediator in Texas. He serves as a Mediator for the Mediation Research and Education Project (MREP). He also achieved certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute, and has received training in Interest Based Bargaining techniques from the National Mediation Board, the Mattford Group, and the Harvard Negotiations Project. He has also completed the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service training on Becoming a Labor Arbitrator. He has served as a guest lecturer in the MBA programs at the University of North Texas, Washington University, and Embry Riddle on the topics of the Railway Labor Act and Collective Bargaining. Mr. Burdette has extensive experience in Arbitration, as a witness, as a Board member, and as a Neutral.
